Will Pennsylvania Pass a Distracted Driving Law This Fall?

The 2009 – 2010 Pennsylvania legislative session ends in just a few weeks – will a Pennsylvania distracted driving law be passed in that time?

House Democrats are said to be pushing for a bill that could reach the Governor by November.  However, there are currently important differences between the House and Senate distracted driving bills. The current House version makes distracted driving a primary offense for all drivers while the current Senate version only applies to teen drivers and only makes it a secondary offense.  However, with public support of a distracted driving law reported to at about 90%, both the House and Senate may be under pressure to compromise.

Currently, Pennsylvania is among the minority of states without a distracted driving law.  What do you think?  Should Pennsylvania enact a distracted driving law and would it make our roads safer?
