jenrgw Will Easton Enact a Cell Phone Ordinance?

Last Spring Allentown and Bethlehem both passed ordinances limiting the use of cell phones while driving and imposing fines on those found to be in violation of the ordinances.  Now Easton is considering a similar ordinance.

The Easton ordinance would ban drivers from talking, texting, messaging or e-mailing on their phones or other “interactive wireless” devices.  The ordinance would apply not just to motor vehicle drivers but also to skateboarders, rollerbladers, bicyclists and scooter drivers.

Many Easton city officials support this ordinance but some are concerned about its enforceability.  The Public Safety Committee has sent this Easton distracted driving ordinance to the solicitor for review.
