jenrgw Will Connecticut Change Its Distracted Driving Law Again?

It has only been a year since the Connecticut General Assembly voted to increase fines for distracted driving.  However, some Connecticut legislators are prepared to raise fines again. At a meeting on February 14, the Transportation Committee heard testimony about bills that would increase fines and criminal penalties for distracted drivers.

One proposed bill would raise the fine for each violation by $100 over the current levels which are $100 for a first time violation, $150 for a second violation, and $200 for all subsequent violations.  Another bill would double the fines in work zones and school zones.  Still another bill would impose a misdemeanor charge on second time violators and felony charges on distracted drivers who cause an accident resulting in serious injury or death.

We will continue to watch the situation in Connecticut and report on any new legislation that is passed.
