jenrgw Virginia Teen Driving Fatalities Increase During January 2012

January 2012 has been a dangerous month for Virginia teenagers. Safety groups are asking parents to get involved as the number of teenagers who have died on Virginia roads has increased substantially since this time last year. In the first few weeks of January 2012, 11 teenagers died on Virginia roads compared to 3 teenagers who died during the same time period of 2011.

As a result, groups like Youth of Virginia Speak Out are urging parents to talk to their kids, to explain the dangers of speeding and distracted driving, and to establish clear driving rules.

It is hoped that parent input, and a possible tougher teen distracted driving law that recently passed the Virginia Senate, can help make the rest of the year safer for Virginia teens and other drivers.

We extend our sincere condolences to the families of those who lost children in recent accidents and hope for fewer deaths in the coming months.
