jenrgw Texting Said to Have Caused Serious Vermont Accident

An 18 year old girl faces a potential 15 years in prison and $15,000 fine for a car accident that was allegedly caused by her texting and driving.  According to the police, Emma Vieira was driving on River Road in Colchester, Vermont on August 7 when she supposedly checked a text message on her cell phone.  Investigators allege that while Ms. Vieira was checking the text, she hit Deborah Drewniak who was out walking her dog, Charlie.  Charlie was killed in the crash.  Ms. Drewniak remained in a coma and in critical condition 11 days after the accident.

Ms. Vieira has pleaded not guilty to the felony charges against her and has been ordered by the court not to drive.

We express our best wishes to Ms. Drewniak, and to her family, for a fast and complete recovery.
