jenrgw Texas Distracted Driving Bill Awaits Governor’s Signature

A Texas distracted driving law has passed both the state House and Senate and is currently waiting for Governor Perry’s signature.  If signed by the Governor, the law in Texas will be that if you are found to be texting, e-mailing or instant messaging on your phone while you are driving then you have committed a misdemeanor and face a $200 fine.

There are concerns that the bill will be difficult to enforce since there are specific exemptions for dialing a phone number or answering a call.  Police officers are concerned that they won’t be able to tell who is texting and who is dialing.

Whether the bill will be signed into law and, if so, how it will be enforced remains to be seen.
