jenrgw Should Ohio Pass a Law Banning Texting and Driving?

Ohio took a big step forward in the fight against distracted driving last week.  On Tuesday June 28, the Ohio House of Representatives passed a bill to approve a statewide ban on texting and driving.  Drivers found guilty of texting and driving in Ohio would be fined $150 and cited for a misdemeanor.

Supporters of the bill cite recent Ohio fatal accidents as a reason that the bill should become law.  Opponents of the bill claim that Ohio’s distracted driving laws already encompass texting and driving and that this law is unnecessary.  Several Ohio communities, including Columbus, have local bans on texting and driving.

Do you think a state bill outlawing texting and driving is a good idea in Ohio?  Please leave a comment and share your thoughts.
