jenrgw Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day

Today is “Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day” in New Jersey.  On this day, officials are asking drivers to obey all traffic laws including the ban on texting and driving and using a handheld cell phone and driving.

According to a 2010 Fairleigh Dickinson University PublicMind Poll the number of people who have sent a text message while driving in New Jersey increased by 20% from 2009 to 2010.

State Police Field Operations Commander Maj. Heidi Scripture has indicated that patrols will be increased to enforce safety laws.  However, it is ultimately a personal decision to obey New Jersey distracted driving laws and other driving laws.  It is a personal decision that could save your life or the life of someone else.

So, it is not enough to put the brakes on fatalities for one day.  It is a personal and conscious decision that must be made by every driver every day.  Starting today.
