jenrgw One Year Later – A Review of the Illinois Distracting Driving Laws

It has been almost a year since Illinois joined the majority of states and a ban on certain types of distracted driving went into place.

As of January 2010, it is illegal to text and drive in Illinois.  It is also illegal to use a cell phone in a construction zone or school zone.

To date, 4,236 citations and 2,629 warnings have been issued to motorists for allegedly using a cell phone in a construction or school zone.  929 citations were issued for texting and driving.

Of course, there is no way to know how many accidents were prevented and how many lives saved as a result of the new Illinois distracted driving laws, which would be the true measure of success.
