jenrgw North Carolina Man Sentenced in Texting and Driving Case

The Associated Press is reporting that a guilty plea by 25 year old Andrew James Watkins last week may be the first case concerning texting and driving to make it through the North Carolina courts.

Mr. Watkins has pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor death of Joel Severson last August.  Mr. Watkins allegedly veered out of his lane while he was texting and driving and hit Mr. Severson’s motorcycle.

Mr. Watkins has been sentenced for this North Carolina texting accident fatality.  He will serve a 60 day suspended sentence, perform 200 hours of community service, pay a fine of $1,000 plus court costs, and agree not to possess a cell phone while driving in the future.
