jenrgw New Rule Proposed for Commercial Truck and Bus Drivers

Last month, the U.S. Department of Transportation proposed a new rule that would prohibit interstate commercial bus and truck drivers from using hand held cell phones while operating commercial vehicles.  Approximately 4 million drivers would be affected by this rule.

This rule is in addition to the rule that bans commercial drivers from texting and driving which went into effect in September 2010.

The proposed rule is meant to highlight the importance of not driving while talking on a cell phone for all drivers and it is meant to decrease the risk of distracted driving accidents among commercial drivers.  Comments on the proposed rule will be allowed until mid February.  Please visit the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration website for information about how to leave a comment.
