jenrgw New Jersey Motor Vehicle Death Blamed on Distracted Driving

Distracted driving is being blamed for a motor vehicle death and a serious injury in Linden, New Jersey. According to officials, an 88 year old man and his wife were hit by the driver of an SUV who was on his cell phone at the time of the crash.

The accident happened around 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday October 26, 2011. The man and his wife were reportedly walking to their car after closing up their shoe repair shop when the couple was hit. The man suffered a significant head injury and was pronounced dead within a few hours of the accident. The woman was reported to be in serious but stable condition following the crash.

The driver of the SUV has been cited for driving while talking on a cell phone and failure to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk.  Officials say the case is under investigation with regard to additional charges.
