jenrgw New Federal Distracted Driving Guidelines on the Way?

This month the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) held a series of meetings about voluntary guidelines it plans to impose on auto manufacturers to fight distracted driving.

Some of the proposals by the NHTSA include disabling texting and web browsing dashboard technology use by a driver while a vehicle is in motion and limiting the amount of time a driver can view other information on the dashboard.

Right now it is unclear whether the NHTSA will release the final guidelines this week or wait 60 days, as has been requested by the auto industry. The NHTSA plans to release the studies it relied on to make its recommendations during the next few months.

What do you think about the NHTSA recommendations? Will they help prevent distracted driving accidents? Please leave a comment and share your thoughts.
