jenrgw Is Voice Activated Texting Legal?

Siri has entered the cell phone market with much excitement and anticipation. IPhone 4S users can now dictate their texts and have received texts read to them via Siri. Users of other kinds of cell phones can use other certain apps to “voice text.” Some car manufacturers are even installing technology to help with voice texting.

However, is texting by voice while driving legal?

That depends on where you live and how your state law is written. Some states such as Indiana and Illinois specifically allow for hands free texting which could potentially allow voice texting. Other states have a more complete ban on texting while driving.

What do you think? Should voice activated texting be legal? Should laws be updated to account for this technology or should all texting, no matter how it is done, by banned for drivers?
