jenrgw Indiana Distracted Driving Law Ready for Governor Signature

According to Indiana State Police records, cell phones were a contributing factor in at least 1,100 crashes last year and contributed to at least four motor vehicle deaths.

Many are hoping that those numbers will significantly decrease if Governor Mitch Daniels signs an Indiana distracted driving bill into law.  The bill, which has passed both the Indiana House and Senate,  would prohibit composing or reading text messages while driving.  It is narrowly written and would not prohibit drivers from using cell phones while driving, using the internet while driving or doing any other distracted driving activity.

We will continue to monitor whether this bill becomes an Indiana distracted driving law and, if so, whether the new law is effective in decreasing distracted driving accidents.
