jenrgw How Much Distraction is Too Much?

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) recently looked at how much distraction is unsafe for drivers. The answer is not much. MIT researchers found that when a driver is thinking about something else, such as a problem at work or home, the driver is less likely to be attentive to dangers on the road. This is true regardless of whether the drivers were using a cell phone while driving and regardless of the age of the drivers.

Certainly, cognitive driving distractions are not new, but can anything be done to prevent this potential danger? MIT researchers are working on an answer to that question.
