jenrgw How Distracted Are Drivers Under 30?

The results of a recent Consumer Reports and U.S. Department of Transportation poll are in.  While the results aren’t all that surprising, they do highlight a problem and the results are leading Consumer Reports and the U.S. Department of Transportation to partner together to combat the problem.

According to the poll:

  • 63% of drivers under 30 admit to driving while using a hand held cell phone.
  • 30% of drivers under 30 admit to texting while driving.
  • Only 30% of drivers under 30 believe these behaviors to be dangerous.

As a result, Consumer Reports and the Department of Transportation have developed an online guide targeted to drivers under 30, they have created a public service message, and they have developed a video that will play in retail stores.

Will it be enough?  This new campaign against distracted driving may prove useful, but ultimately it is personal prevention that will decrease distracted driving injuries and death.  Please make your personal pledge to stop distracted driving today.
