jenrgw Could the GPS of the Future Reduce Distracted Driving Accidents?

It may take years before it is available in your car, but AT&T is currently testing a screenless GPS system that would give driving directions without having drivers look at a screen or even listen to spoken directions. Instead, the GPS system would use technology known as haptics that would deliver a pattern of vibrations to the steering wheel that would tell drivers where to turn next.

Preliminary studies indicate that people were less distracted with this method than with verbal or visual GPS directions. Future studies are planned. Researchers note that before haptics can be used like this in cars, the technology must be easy to understand.

What do you think? Could a system of vibrations be safer than our current GPSs and prevent distracted driving accidents? Please leave a comment and let us know.
