jenrgw Columbia South Carolina Bans Texting and Driving

Last week the Columbia, South Carolina City Council passed an ordinance banning texting and driving.  The ordinance was immediately effective and is now law within the city limits.

Here’s what you need to know about the new law:

  • Talking on a cell phone, looking up a phone number of using GPS technology while driving is not prohibited.
  • Sending, composing or reading a text message or email or using the internet, Facebook or Twitter are prohibited unless you are using voice activated technology.
  • If you violate the law, you will be faced with a fine, court costs and processing fees totally about $237.00.
