jenrgw Chicago City Council Proposes New Distracted Driving Ordinance

This time, the proposed distracted driving ordinance does not apply to drivers of motor vehicles. Instead, the new ordinance would apply to bicyclists.

City Council members are considering an ordinance that would require bicyclists to follow the same rules as motorists.  In other words, if the ordinance passes, bicyclists will not be able to use a hand held cell phone while biking or text and bike.

The ordinance is being called a “common sense ordinance” that is needed to protect pedestrians and bicyclists.

What do you think?  Will this ordinance help decrease Chicago distracted driving accidents?  Please leave a comment and share your thoughts.
