jenrgw California Woman Sentenced for Alleged Texting and Driving Death

Earlier this month, 26 year old Ani Voskanian pleaded no contest to hitting and killing an 80 year old man with her car.  Ms. Voskanian was accused of texting and driving at the time that she struck Misak Ranjbar.

However, Ms. Voskanian will not serve jail time. Instead, she will:

  • Serve 3 years probation.
  • Perform 300 hours of community service.
  • Develop a lecture program for junior and senior high school students about the dangers of texting and driving.
  • Not be allowed to possess a cell phone while inside a vehicle.
  • Have her license revoked for three years.

Reports indicate that Misak Ranjbar’s family supported Ms. Voskanian’s sentence for this fatal texting and driving accident.  What do you think?  Was this a fair sentence?
