jenrgw California Distracted Driving Laws Appear to be Working

There has been a significant decrease in cell phone related accidents since the adoption and enforcement of California distracted driving laws, according to a new study released by the University of California Berkeley and announced by the California Office of Traffic Safety.

Researchers looked at the number of fatal cell phone accidents from two years before a ban on handheld cell phone use while driving went into place and from two years after the ban went into place. They found that the number of cell phone related driving deaths fell by about 47% and many attribute the decrease in fatalities to three things: (1) strong laws; (2) enforcement of the laws; and (3) educating the public about the dangers of distracted driving.

Does your state have a law banning cell phone use while driving? It is enforced? Is the public educated about the dangers of distracted driving?
