jenrgw April in Beverly Hills

Last month police in Beverly Hills, California issued 679 citations for driving while using a cell phone.  The citations were issued as part of a zero tolerance crackdown on distracted driving.  560 of the tickets were issued for talking on a cell phone while driving and the remaining 119 were issued for texting and driving.

However, it is not only the number of tickets that were issued that is of interest.  It is also when in the month those tickets were issued.   According to Beverly Hills Police Department Traffic Bureau Lieutenant Mark Rosen, it was harder to find drivers to ticket at the end of the month.  Maybe word was getting out that distracted driving is not tolerated in Beverly Hills.  It will be interesting to see whether that message has been heard or whether periodic crackdowns continue to be necessary reminders.
