jenrgw Another Unique Sentence for Distracted Driving

Last September, an SUV hit a car which caused the car to hit a family crossing the street at a crosswalk in Huntingdon Beach, California.  The distracted driving accident occurred when Robert Casares, the driver of the SUV, reached over to secure a laptop that was falling off of the passenger seat. Mr. Casares crashed into the car in front of him which led to the chain reaction accident.  The accident killed a 4 month old baby girl who was in her stroller and injured her mother and an 11 year girl.

Recently, Mr. Casares pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of vehicular manslaughter. He was sentenced to three years probation, ordered to make a $5,500 donation to The Joyful Child Foundation and ordered to complete 300 hours of community service as a school crossing guard.
